A September To Remember

So after my last post, I got a flood of both public and private messages with advice on raising toddlers.  I have really smart and wonderful friends.  Some of them made me smile, some made me cry, some made me laugh UNTIL I cried...

My favorite was from my friend S., who said she lives and parents by six little words, first thought of by the ancient Greek writer Sophocles.

‎"What you cannot enforce, do not command."
So simple.  So perfect.  So NOT working.

Hannie continues her reign of toddler terror. Here is this week's edition of You Know You're Parenting A Toddler When..

You have been kicked in the head no less than four times while trying to change a diaper.

You have cleaned lasagna. off. the. ceiling (okay, that one was actually my friend Abby, but too funny not to include).

You have very little actual money in your purse, but you do possess a rock, the head (but not the body) of a doll, ring pops, and a phone that used to be used for making calls but now it's sole purpose is toddler you-tube videos and games.

You have uttered the phrase "because polite people DO wear pants in public, that's why!"

So why am I still so excited to see her most days? Maybe it's because she is so cute and funny.  Maybe it's because when I look at her, I see a better me. Either that or she permanently brain-damaged me when she kicked me in the head :-)

A September To Remember...  It's been a busy month so far!  Hannie started taking two classes, gymnastics and music, and loves both of them.  I originally signed her up for them in hopes of burning off toddler energy.  It seems to have the opposite affect.  I believe they have served to increase her endurance. Oops.  We were paid a special visit on my 30th birthday by some of my Kaz Mama friends, who came from 4 states to help me celebrate "Jim Bob Duggar" style.  It was a super fun party.  We went with our neighbors to their campground on Labor Day weekend and had a great time.  Here are the snapshots...

 Until next time! XOXO Erin

Hannie sounds so much like my Gianna. I just constantly remind myself this too shall pass. Although there are times everyday that I have a hard time believing this. I especially enjoyed the new bed photos. We have not made that switch yet but it is coming soon and I dread it. Hang in there you are not the only one being kicked in the head during diaper changes.

Hannie may be a handful right now but man is she cute. thanks for the smiles. Sounds like for your own safety potty training is a good idea :)

She's beautiful and so are you! And whoa do I feel your pain about toddlers...:) I just potty trained my 2 year old son and all I can tell you is WOW it is LOTS of work having a toddler! Diapers OR Underpants. :)

I feel your pain! Literally. One day we'll look back and cherish these times. I think. Hang in there! Soon she'll be 3 and then the fun really starts - or so I've been told!

Oh my friend, its time for pull ups, so at least for "wet onlies" you can zip (or rip 'em right off) them up and down sans a helmut! :)

No brain damage, of course you are overjoyed to see that darling face round a corner....cuz your her Mama and even the hard days are days to remember! ( well maybe not cleaning food off the ceiling...but you know what I mean!) LOL

We utter absurd phrases and say things we thought we would never say....like," no we don't wear swimsuits to school," and "underwear IS only worn UNDER our pants because I say so!!" ;) cuz to do otherwise would be dry, boring, mundane, I SAY! (or not!) But ya gotta admit, when "littles" are around its never EVAH a dry moment!

Oh and had to chortle ( yes, I really did!) about rocks in the purse ~ I managed to walk around for close to 2 weeks with several rocks in my purse and wondered all along why/how it had gotten so "dern" heavy!

Hugs!!! Maybe 2 sport's related classes then?? Wear that girl out! LOL

Zachary is often telling me, "But I don't want to!" The most common phrase heard about our house is, "I didn't ask if you wanted to. I told you you needed to". He doesn't like that answer too much. Can't imagine why!

Yeah...I hate to tell you...it does get worse with the behaviors. I notice a difference in even the last couple of months. The good news is they become a little more self sufficient so some other things get easier. Well. Kind of.
