A September To Remember

So after my last post, I got a flood of both public and private messages with advice on raising toddlers.  I have really smart and wonderful friends.  Some of them made me smile, some made me cry, some made me laugh UNTIL I cried...

My favorite was from my friend S., who said she lives and parents by six little words, first thought of by the ancient Greek writer Sophocles.

‎"What you cannot enforce, do not command."
So simple.  So perfect.  So NOT working.

Hannie continues her reign of toddler terror. Here is this week's edition of You Know You're Parenting A Toddler When..

You have been kicked in the head no less than four times while trying to change a diaper.

You have cleaned lasagna. off. the. ceiling (okay, that one was actually my friend Abby, but too funny not to include).

You have very little actual money in your purse, but you do possess a rock, the head (but not the body) of a doll, ring pops, and a phone that used to be used for making calls but now it's sole purpose is toddler you-tube videos and games.

You have uttered the phrase "because polite people DO wear pants in public, that's why!"

So why am I still so excited to see her most days? Maybe it's because she is so cute and funny.  Maybe it's because when I look at her, I see a better me. Either that or she permanently brain-damaged me when she kicked me in the head :-)

A September To Remember...  It's been a busy month so far!  Hannie started taking two classes, gymnastics and music, and loves both of them.  I originally signed her up for them in hopes of burning off toddler energy.  It seems to have the opposite affect.  I believe they have served to increase her endurance. Oops.  We were paid a special visit on my 30th birthday by some of my Kaz Mama friends, who came from 4 states to help me celebrate "Jim Bob Duggar" style.  It was a super fun party.  We went with our neighbors to their campground on Labor Day weekend and had a great time.  Here are the snapshots...
